Everyday parasites, viruses remind us of disease, danger and death, and the SARS-CoV-2 health crisis has amplified this fear. However, viruses have many benefits, both in terms of scientific progress and modern therapeutic applications.
With the help of scientific mediation, future generations are invited to change their view of viruses. Virobiote was designed with this in mind. It is a traveling exhibition for children from 7 to 12 years old. The children’s mission is to investigate a criminal virus. As their investigation progresses, they eliminate the "nice viruses" and discover their protective virtues
" Virobiote is an exhibition on viruses aimed at a school audience between the end of primary and the beginning of secondary school. This colorful and attractive world invites children to get close and experiment with the various devices.
Far from a "scientific" or "academic" image, Léa proposes a playful mediation: the narrative thread is woven around a game of investigation the aim of which is to distinguish the harmful viruses from the harmless or even beneficial ones. As they visit the exhibition, the child becomes an active participant in the learning process.
The proposed solution is very comprehensive: the graphic and scenographic aspects are carefully worked out, as well as the narrative, the learning benefits, and the budgetary and logistical issues. Lea’s systemic vision takes into account the medial situation, the possibilities of the educational system and the cognitive needs of the child.
Léa was inspired by the lockdown situation and its anxiety-provoking capital to build a useful and original project. Understanding viruses and how they work also means talking about their benefits for humans. "
