The space and the blind by Julie Hamard
The PMR disability standards are mainly aimed at people in wheelchairs, so Julie has considered an optimised home environment for the use by blind and partially sighted people.
This environment allows them to move around smoothly, without obstacles, in a safe space. Six essential elements are modified with respect to traditional housing: the curvature of walls and furniture, false ceilings, floor texture, the use of a handrail to guide the user, a voice system controlling lights and shutters, as well as switches. Existing building materials are reused and redesigned for these specific needs, optimising the financial cost of the project.
