同性恋 Same Sex Love ; inside the family
Out of 70 million LGBT people in China, only 5% of them dare to reveal their sexual identity. A very low social visibility and the relatively recent decriminalization of homosexuality explain this choice. The patriarchal family remains the pillar of Chinese society. Lola Mechineau designed an information and communication kit intended for the young LGBTQI+ community. After they have announced their sexual orientation to their family, the young people are given help and support. A mobile application enables parents and youths to stay informed, create specific events and access an on-line service of mutual aid and sharing. The application is due to be developed by PFLAG in 2019.
" Today, China is experiencing a new revolution. The country is opening up to the world and becoming international: the one-child policy has been relaxed, which will change family structure and the role of the child in the family. Lola took an interest in the LGBTQI+ community in China. Although it is no longer a punishable act in China today to belong to this community, it still remains a taboo subject in families. Lola therefore used design to find a solution to establish this dialogue within families. This project is a social innovation: Lola is trying to bring change to the family environment of the LGBTQI+ community. She carried out a thorough analysis of the media and codes used by both communities, choosing a common vocabulary and dialectic, with the added difficulty of understanding a Chinese context very different from that of the west. In order to achieve this, she met many actors from this milieu as well as the families, to gain a better understanding of her subject from the inside. Her application allows both parties to find common interests and take part in cultural events and puts families in touch with each other to open doors and help them accept differences. "
This project is selected for Design L’Expo 2019 and will be exhibited from December 19th 2019 to March 1st 2020 at la Cale 2 Créateurs.
