Duty of remembrance in Oradour-sur-glane by Julie Guillon
“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” (Winston Churchill)
On 10 June 1944, 642 civilians were massacred for no reason by an SS division in Oradour-sur-Glane. So as not to forget this event, Julie approached Mr. André Desourteaux, who is a survivor of the massacre. In an interview, he bore witness and delivered a message to the younger generations. His words are illustrated by handmade drawings and integrated into the video. Projected in the last room of the Memory Centre, a space for reflection and transition before entering the village, the video uses the Pepper Ghost technique. Using a video projection system onto a plate placed on the floor, the man-ghost comes to life and talks to us.
