What is Design L’Expo?

For the seventh year in a row, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is exhibiting a selection of the best final degree projects. In 2016, the exhibition was a huge success with over 3,900 visitors.

By showcasing the work of its young students and future designers through these innovative projects, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique wishes to introduce the general public to a vision of design which goes way beyond simple esthetics.

Design L’Expo 2017 brings together 19 projects selected from over 180 projects by students from the 2017 Elie Papiernik graduating class. These projects reflect the quality and diversity of approaches found in the specialized fields taught as Master’s programs: Care, Digital Culture, New Eating Habits, Sustainable Cities, Transcultural Design (China and India) and the Design and Innovation Management apprenticeship program.

Using design to address diverse and highly contemporary issues

The young designers chose to tackle a wide variety of topics:
• Making spelling fun;
• Reclaiming connected objects;
• Reducing food waste in homes;
• Offering a sensory and immersive experience of international events;
• Helping party animals protect their health;
• Encouraging consumption of tomorrow’s fish;
• Helping expats adjust to food in France;
• Guiding workers towards new modes of mobility on a daily basis;
• Initiating migrants in personal reconstruction through the appropriation of transitional housing;
• Giving expression to citizens’ contribution to building sustainable cities;
• Facilitating informal exchanges between teleworkers;
• Promoting the use of medicinal plants;
• Encouraging the appropriation of shared workplaces by mobile workers;
• Helping teenagers placed in child welfare institutions in the process of personal reconstruction;
• Encouraging the inclusion of child asylum seekers through play and learning French;
• Putting a stop to clothing wastage and making fashion environmentally-friendly;
• Commemorating the deceased in keeping with Chinese culture;
• Opening up sports activities to a wider audience in India;
• Improving children’s learning capacity through play.

Design L’Expo is hosted on the Ile de Nantes at the Cale 2 Créateurs. Throughout the two-month exhibit, visitors are invited to vote for the most innovative project. The exhibition will subsequently be presented on various occasions over the course of 2018.
