After a first training in Architecture, Laura Loyaza joined L’École de design Nantes Atlantique to deepen her skills in design methodology and to benefit from an international experience.
Tell me more about your educational background
Before joining L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, I had a long and exiting journey. I started my architecture studies in a city called Guayaquil, in my country of birth Ecuador. While I was doing my second year of studies I joined a construction company looking for an enriching and nice experience.
In 2017 my curiosity about discovering the different perspectives of architecture and design around the world made me left my hometown and former university. I decided to continue my studies in Barcelona, Spain. There I had the opportunity to discover a large part of the architectural field and realized that my professional goals had evolved towards the interior design. After looking some options around Europe, I decided to join the International Class, in the BDes Retail & Interior design program.
Why did you choose L’École de design Nantes Atlantique? What are its strengths?
I choose L’École de design Nantes Atlantique because it is known for its quality of studies and its teaching methods. Also, because I found the perfect program for me, the International Class gives the opportunity to international students like me to join the school and receive the courses in English.
Now that I have been part of the school for almost a year, I think that its strongest points are the quality of education, the design methodology that combines research, creativity and practice, and of course the integration through the International Class.
What have you achieved during this year at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique?
Thanks to this year in the school I have discovered a different approach to design. Working on different projects with different matters and durations helped me to develop my ability to manage issues, create innovative design solutions, and reminded me that the most important thing in a design project is the users.
With the welcoming and great environment inside the school I also had the opportunity to meet many people and discover different cultures from all around the world.
What are your plans for the future?
I would like to stay here in France and start my professional life. I am improving my French speaking skills to be ready to join a company. I want to keep working on the retail design sector.
At the same time, I will continue working remotely for the construction company I worked before in Ecuador, which is focused on the design of houses.
