Portrait of Agathe Lasfargues, 1st year student in MDes Food Design

Inquisitive, fond of good food, meticulous, Agathe likes reaching out to others and discovering new universes. Let’s meet this 22-year old student.

Tell me about your training.

After 3 years at l’École de Condé in Paris where I got a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design majoring in printed media, I joined L’École de design Nantes Atlantique in September 2019 on the Food Design Master’s program.

Agathe Lasfargues

Why did you choose L’École de design? What are its strengths?

At the end of my Bachelor’s degree, I was keen to discover a specialty other than graphic design, a training program more in line with my aspirations. Having always appreciated the culinary domain, I was looking for a Master’s in this field and L’École de design Nantes Atlantique offers just such a specialty in Food Design, which is rare.

I really like its international outlook and its many foreign partnerships. Working in other contexts and with designers from other cultures helps us to gain maturity, to adapt to each situation and, above all, to know what kind of designer we want to become.

As for the training proposed, the school’s approach is very different from anything I’ve experienced so far: we’re treated like the next generation of professional designers. The school accustoms us to working in teams, like in a real agency and, more importantly, teaches us to be tolerant and curious.

What have you achieved during this first year of your Master’s?

During this first year, I’ve carried out a wide variety of group projects dealing with new themes, and experimented in new fields, moving away from graphic design. Plus, I conducted these projects from A to Z, which is really instructive.

I also met some amazing people, whether it was students of different nationalities or encouraging and receptive teaching staff. The school encourages us to take part in competitions and that pushed me to work towards another goal and sparked a certain competitive spirit in me.
