Lecture : Andrea Branzi, "La Metropoli Debole" (urban planning and architecture in today’s metropolis)

A lecture jointly organized by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique and the Abbey of Fontevraud will be held on Thursday January, 15 janvier 2009 at 6.15 in the lecture hall of the IRESTE located within the premises of the Nantes Polytechnic Institute (École polytechnique de Nantes).


Born in Firenze in 1938 Andrea Branzi is a well-renowned Milan-based architect and designer. From 1969 to 1974 he was a member of Archizoom Associati, a world-famous avant-garde group of artists before joining the no less famous Memphis collective led by Ettore Sottsass. Since 1967 has has been exploring both the theoretical and practical dimensions of various fields such as design, architecture city-planning and education. He currently teaches at the design and architecture department of the Politecnico di Milano .
His intervention is part of a series of lectures and debates initiated by the Abbey of Fontevraud to address the link between contemporary architecture and utopian projects rooted in the key notion of “Ideal City.”
L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is honored to take part in welcoming such an important figure who has managed to practice and intertwine actual making and critical reflection in design.
