L’École de design at Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs’ Open Days

L’École de design at Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs’ Open Days

From May 26 to 28, 2010, about 20 of our students’ final degree projects were exhibited at the Bell Labs Research Center. A great opportunity to showcase projects to high-class professionals.

About 20 third and fourth-year students exhibited their works-in-progress during Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs"Open Days". The 2010 session was centered on the topic "HUMAN BEINGS AT THE CORE OF THE NETWORK".

Our students had the opportunity to introduce their work to a prime audience: close Alcatel Lucent partners and researchers. Geneviève Sengisssen (Paris-based PR Coordinator for L’École de design), who came to the event, got an insight into the wide range of research activities conducted by Bell Labs teams.

Very few research centers open their doors so widely, and very few engineers take the time to bring all their research topics to the fore like those at Bell Labs did.

Un lien étroit avec les Bell Labs

Closely-knit bonds with Bell Labs

L’école de design has signed 2 partnerhsip agreements with Bell Labs’ research center. Two final-year Master’s students are doing their internship at the company’s head office. Post-doctoral student in design Pierrick Thébault is doing his PhD at Bell Labs. To open up these days even more, he set up a clever in-house Twitter network that smooths out teamwork within the lab.

Open Days, open minds: the key to innovation

Pierrick Thébault’s take: "Bell Labs Screen is a project that originates in the desire to smooth the flow of information in our premises, to increase and broaden in-house interaction and prompt employees to see the company in a new light. The onscreen interface agglomerates together coporate communication, the messages exchanged on our microblogging platform and Twitter feeds. In the hallway or over a coffee, teamworkers can see in the blink of an eye all links or queries posted in-house by their co-workers and Internet readers’ comments on Alcatel-Lucent and the Bell Labs’ activities. The implementation of these screens really changed our way of checking and spreading information: team members gradually take to this new tool to enliven their own speech forum!"
