Together, for the first time in France, with the Creative Arts District Cluster, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is putting together the Viz Marathon, a global competition in information visualization (infovis) that will challenge competitors to devise design solutions aimed at complex global issues. The French edition will take place from November 9-11, 2012, at the Creative Arts District in Nantes. Over $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to the most creative, competition open to all schools.

The Viz Marathon is a timed team competition on the visualization of information and data processing open to design students (Interactive Design and Graphic Design). Students may sign up in one of two categories: Static Infographics or Interactive Applications. Teams must have 4 students, and the working language is English. Each team is expected to provide its own equipment (workstation and software), as well as food and beverages. Free and open registration will run through November 1st, pending spots available, via http://2012marathon-lecolededesign.eventbrite.com/.

Organized by Visualizing.org in partnership with General Electric (GE), the third (3rd) edition of this competition will take place at the same time with Beijing (China), Hong Kong, Nairobi (Kenya), Sao Paulo (Brazil), New York, New York, Baltimore, Maryland, and Columbus, Ohio (U.S.A.), London, Brighton and Bristol (United Kingdom), Potsdam (Germany), and Namur and Leuven (Belgium).
