CREDO 2008 « Recto/verso : The Lights of the Ideal City »

The international design workshop CREDO 2008 (Cooperation in Research and Education for Design Options) took place from April 19 to 26, 2008 at the Abbey of Fontevraud (Loire Region).

The theme chosen for the CREDO 2008 session was : “Recto/verso : The Lights of the Ideal City.”

Design and electricity have gained recognition as emblematic phenomena of 20th century modernity, both in the technical field and the realm of collective imagination. The participants of this year’s CREDO workshop session strove to investigate this double meaning : What exactly is going on with the artifice of light pervading our material environment ? Which values are likely to enlighten the designers of today in their practice ?

The 2008 session was co-organized with the EDF (French national electricity provider) design team. 35 participants from 8 prestigious European education institutions took part in this one-week event.

The outcomes of the workshop will be exhibited during “La Cité Idéale,” a cultural event that will take place on October 11, 2008 at the abbey. The organizing team also plans to publish a whole collection of bilingual (French/English) “CREDO” brochures documenting the event.

CREDO is organized by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique in collaboration with the Pays de la Loire Region, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud and the Cumulus association together with EDF.
