Design professions

Definition of design

This definition, given by World Design Organisation ( formely ICSID - International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) in 2015, is valid all the design professions:

"[…] Design is a strategic problem-solving process that drives innovation, builds business success and leads to a better quality of life through innovative products, systems, services and experiences."

The design professions are intended to improve the quality and competitiveness of a product or a range of products, a service, a space or communication, by working on functional, technical, aesthetic and semantic aspects. Designers usually work in multidisciplinary teams and the various project stakeholders are involved throughout the creative and innovative process.
