Design professions

Definition of design

This definition, given by World Design Organisation ( formely ICSID - International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) in 2015, is valid all the design professions:

"[…] Design is a strategic problem-solving process that drives innovation, builds business success and leads to a better quality of life through innovative products, systems, services and experiences."

The design professions are intended to improve the quality and competitiveness of a product or a range of products, a service, a space or communication, by working on functional, technical, aesthetic and semantic aspects. Designers usually work in multidisciplinary teams and the various project stakeholders are involved throughout the creative and innovative process.

Design involves a wide spectrum of professions.

Interior Architecture

The fields of activity for interior architecture include interior design (private and public spaces), urban planning and natural landscaping.



Scenography seeks to ensure the transmission of a message to a particular target group by creating communicative spaces and volumes


Graphic Design

Graphic design is an activity which seeks to produce visual communication combining image and text, on a printed medium or screen


Interaction Design

Interaction design is the design of innovative services related to information and communication technologies.


Industrial Product Design

Product design is a design activity concerning consumer goods as well as capital goods, whether they are manufactured on an industrial scale or by craft production.
