The India Studio of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is based in India since 2010. The program began its operations in Bangalore (Karnataka) in 2010 and then moved to Delhi in 2014. Now in partnership with the MIT Institute of Design since 2018, the India Studio sets itself apart by its approach to Social Innovations, Experiential Learning and Design Management.
In 2018, a cooperation agreement with the MIT Institute of Design has been signed in Pune, cultural capital of the state of Maharashtra allowing the India Studio to further grow its impact and potential in the country. Indeed, Pune is often referred to as “Oxford of the East” as the city welcomes more foreign students than the rest of India combined (approximately 24000 foreign students). Many prestigious universities from various faculties are settled there. Pune holds a place in the world map as one of South-East Asia’s education hub, and also thanks to its impressive Information & Technology (IT) and automobile industry sectors. Such a context offers wider opportunities in terms of collaborations, internships and partnerships for the Transcultural Design MDes program.

India Studio - an environment conducive to creation
Lecturers of various backgrounds and nationalities come directly from the India design scene to teach courses of the Transcultural Design MDes program, and also serve as jurors to the various courses. There are lecturers from the areas of product design, communication design, interaction design, interior design, and graphic design. The teaching team is led by Hélène Thébault, Head of Studies and alumni 2014 and industry professionals are teaching, delivering lectures, supervising student work, and performing juror duty at the school.
Our local partner companies provide opportunity for internships, and cooperate with the school to provide live projects, matching the Indian reality. Studying at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique’s India studio requires one to have an interest in a country rich that is in history, full of fascinating aspects that shape everyday reality. India’s growing economy and high demand for design professionals offer vast capacities to accommodate young designers during and after their studies. The city of Pune offers affordable luxurious housing and living arrangements as well as an intense and manifold cultural experience. Student accommodations are also available on the MIT Institute of Design campus for a complete “university experience”. The city is cosmopolitan and has a rich and diverse cultural life; the many students living there contribute to its dynamism.
