During the 5-year course (5 years of courses), each student has the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at the beginning of the first year of the MDes program. Students can choose between an exchange semester in one of our partner schools or an internship in an agency or a company. They also have the possibility of spending two years in Pune (India), São Paolo (Brazil) or Shanghai (China) if they choose the MDes Transcultural Design.
Several meetings and preparatory workshops run by the Head of Studies, the international coordinator and the internship coordinator are organized in the months preceding the mobility period.
Making an informed choice
To help them choose their school, students can consult the partner institutions’ website (links to the page detailing the curriculum for each institution are provided in November). Students are also advised to consult the member profiles on the Cumulus website.
If the student decides to do an internship abroad, he/she can get in contact with school alumni based around the world and talk to students who have already carried out an internship abroad. They receive internship opportunities, which are send by email by the internship coordinator.
Each year in December, during the International Fair, a meeting is organized between 3rd year students, students in 2nd year of postgraduate studies who are back from abroad and the international students enrolled in L’École de design, and the films produced by the students during their semester abroad are shown. To help them choose their school, students can also come and consult the brochures on the stands.
During their semester abroad, the students doing internships and studying abroad keep a blog describing their experiences and their projects. These blogs can be found on the Master Design Abroad website, which is a precious source of information for students who are preparing a mobility period.
Students also have the opportunity to attend the presentations given by students who have just returned to the school after studying abroad.
