A one-year program to prepare French-speaking international students to join undergraduate studies in Arts, Design & Media

The preparatory class Arts, Design & Media is specifically tailored for French-speaking international students who wish to pursue their undergraduate studies in a program taught in French.

This program is divided into two phases:

  • First semester from September to December: students attend intensive French classes at L’Université de Nantes (IFLE)
  • Second semester from January to June: students join L’École de design Nantes Atlantique for an adaptation to the French design culture and an opening to different design forms

Curriculum

This program aims to:

  • improve your French language,
  • discover the different design fields,
  • prepare you to apply for undergraduate studies in France.

The students will follow general courses (modes of expression, general culture, arts & design culture and working in a multicultural context) and will be able to discover the different design forms: Space Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design and Product Design.

> Course outline

Courses : 702 h per year

  • 1st semester at the University of Nantes
    18 hours of classes per week over 12 weeks, for a total of 216 hours
    French as a foreign language (FLE) courses at the University of Nantes

  • 2nd semester at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique
    27 hours of classes per week over 18 weeks, for a total of 486 hours

General and cultural education

- Western culture (visits, exhibitions, shows)

Artistic education and expression tools
- Colour drawing
- Plastic creation
- Expression tools
- DTP

Project
- Design project methodology
- Portfolio workshop + competition preparation

Admission requirements

> Academic requirements

This program is open to applicants holding:
- A high school diploma obtained at the time of application
- A French level equivalent to A2/B1 assessed by a TCF1 or DELF2 test is required to join the program

> How to apply?

The application process is organized into two phases:
I- Applications to L’École de design Nantes Atlantique

II- If the application file is accepted, application to the University of Nantes for the first semester

I – Apply for the second semester at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique

Applications will open from November 8, 2021 to the end of May, 2022 for the academic year 2022-2023.

Applications can only be done online on our application website (applications are also possible on Campus Art)

1. Online application and payment of the application fees (€50);

2. Uploading all the required documents for application;

3. Application file review;
4. if your application is accepted by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, we will ask you to electronically sign your enrollment documents and to proceed to the payment of the first installment of the tuition fees of €1 200

II – Apply for the first semester at the University of Nantes

Once your application accepted by L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, you will have to apply to the intensive French classes at L’Université de Nantes (IFLE)
Applications will be open from March to the end of May 2022.

Nota Bene: you will be asked to fill an online application form. Please specify in the form « further study » and then select « L’École de design Nantes Atlantique »
2. Applications review every fortnight ;
3. If your application is accepted, payment of the tuition fees for the first semester €1400

1ST SEMESTER
Courses at University of Nantes: €1 900

2ND SEMESTER
Courses at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique: €4 800 (1st installment of €1 200 and then 3 installments of €1 200)

Job prospects and further education

After the completion of this preparatory program, students will be offered the possibility to apply for the first year of undergraduate studies at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique.

But they also will be able to apply to any other undegraduate programs taught in French, in French design schools.
