A one-year program to prepare French-speaking international students to join undergraduate studies in Arts, Design & Media
The Arts, Design, and Media foundations studies is specifically tailored for French-speaking international students who wish to pursue their undergraduate studies in a French-speaking program.
This program is divided in two phases: after having completed one semester of intensive French classes at University of Nantes, students join in L’École de design Nantes Atlantique for an adaptation to the French design culture and an opening to different design forms.
This program aims to:
- improve your French language,
- discover the different design fields,
- prepare your application to undergraduate studies in France.
The students will follow general courses (modes of expression, general culture, technical culture and transcultural courses) and will be able to discover the different design forms: Space Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design and Product Design.
Courses : 702 h per year
1st semester (18 hours of classes over 12 weeks, i.e. 216 hours)
French as a foreign language (FLE) courses at the University of Nantes
2nd semester (27 hours of classes over 18 weeks, i.e. 486 hours)
General and cultural education
- English and French courses
- Art History and Design
- Western culture (visits, exhibitions, shows)
Artistic education and expression tools
- Colour drawing
- Plastic creation

- Design project methodology
- Portfolio workshop + competition preparation
This program is open to applicants holding a high school diploma.
A French level equivalent to A2/B1 assessed by a TCF1 or DELF2 test is required to join the program.

Selection of applicants is done based on their registration form, application file and interview.
How ? Application can only be done online.
When ? Application for the academic year 2021-2022 will open on our application website from November 2020 to June 2021.
How much does it cost ? Once you have filled out your personal data, you will be required to pay a non-refundable inscription fee of 50€ to cover the administrative costs of your admission process. This payment is only possible by credit card or Paypal and is fully secured.
The selection process is organized as follow:
1. online application, payment of the application fees (€50), and uploading all the required documents for application,
2. application file review,
3. if your application is accepted by L’École de design, registration to the University of Nantes for a semester of intensive French classes www.i-fle.univ-nantes.fr

Job prospects and further education
After the completion of this preparatory program, students will be offered the possibility to apply for the first year of undergraduate studies at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique.
But they also will be able to apply to any other undegraduate programs taught in French, in French design schools.
